Matthew James Lyons

blessing—challenge—inspiration

Our second son Matthew James Lyons lived a full twenty-two years. Both his life and death are of great value to me. In them are sweet memories, devastating traumas, life lessons and deep questions. I hope this platform provides the space to explore, learn from, and cherish Matt’s life for all it is worth. Perhaps this exercise can benefit you as well as you join me in the quest.

Home: Welcome

Fear of Forgetting

“Early on I couldn’t stop thinking about Matthew. Now, I’m afraid I’m forgetting him.”

Carried by Kindness

“Let me see if I can help you understand what I mean as I gratefully recollect this phenomenon …”

BASEBALL

“Catcher, pitcher, first, third, wherever they put Matt, he excelled.”

A Hole in my Heart

“There has been a profound change in the deep interior of my being. It seems, at my core, I am empty.”

QUIET & STRONG

He never bragged or made a big deal about it; no posing, no pictures, no posting stats. He just quietly got bigger than anyone around.

Award Worthy

Matt was wrestling against a seasoned opponent, giving it everything he had.

Drugs Killed & Stole

“...drugs that sucked the life out of Matthew, ...stole the delightful details of...his life from my consciousness.”

Why Write?

I thought I would create a place where I can explore my feelings and process my thoughts.

Your Shoes

“...the short version of what they would say... if these shoes could talk.”
